Meeting once every three years, General Convention is the ultimate legislative body for the Episcopal Church. It is comprised of the House of Deputies and House of Bishops, which meet separately but must concur for any action to become church policy. Martha is a lay member of the House of Deputies, representing the Diocese of Newark (New Jersey).
